What was new york before the city?
New York before the city was a flourishing forest on one of the islands of Manhattan. The flora and fauna was exquisite with species that inhabited the mainland as well. The island was a forest mainly thick foliage except for clearings from the Indigenous Indians and occasional meadows. This was before the Dutch first sailed through the Manhattan islands, which was to be New York City's Harbor.
CLimateNew York State has a general humid temperature due to it being very close to the Tropic of Cancer. Some say it is uncomfortably humid during summer. Summer's average temperatures range between 25-30 Degrees Celsius. During winter, New York City endures 35-45 days of bellow zero temperatures and in 2013, they had the coldest winter recorded. Each year it snows due to these low temperatures.

Unusually, weather patterns have been alternated due to the many skyscrapers and urban settlements that create the big city which takes up 1,214 km² in area, covering one of the Manhattan islands. This huge area has a great impact on the weather urban areas around and in New York City. Although it is not highly noticeable, the wind can be slowed down by the skyscrapers. Evidence shows that on one side of the city the wind can be a certain speed, but as it continues through the city it decreases speed from the non aerodynamic building creating. Also, the urban heat island effect is in play in New York City. As studies show the heat around New York City can be far more intense than inside the city. For most towns and cities, land has been cleared to provide space for the homes and services. New York is one of the cities and has demolished all the land to make space for housing and services, this has now completely deforested all the land on the Manhattan island. Research has found old maps showing the basic topography of the land of the first settlement of New York. After 10 years on endeavour, many worked on the Mannahatta Project, they used and old map (as shown) to rediscover what the topography of the land was and then through this they found what landscapes were where on the island. From understanding the landscapes they were able to find out what c upper and eastern side of New York City has been considerably flattened, however the west side is still fairly hilly. Paintings of when the dutch first arrived show hills and beaches that cannot be found in New York City this day, due to the movement, erosion and human development. Future of new yorkThe future of New York City is just like any other megacity, it is growing greatly each year. The population is at a steady increase. 20 million people live in New York City currently and it is suspected to increase heavily in the next decade. From surveys there is to be 100,000 more people over the age of 65 in the next decade due to life expectancy being older and a natural growth in population. It is also assumed to be greener and more economical due to research and want of a fresh clean future. The built landscapes is growing upwards, especially from skyscrapers. This is due to lack of room outside of the city to grow outwards. Many unique projects are being proposed and will be developed in the near future, making New York City's list of features even longer.
